What is the Rogue Valley Food System Network?

The Rogue Valley Food System Network is a group of individuals, organizations, and businesses who have joined together to strengthen our local food system through collaboration. The Network was formed after a year-long community engagement effort that identified food system resources and needs.

The action plan that emerged focuses on eight goals to improve access to local food, promote healthy eating, enhance social equity and develop economic vitality. Over and over, community members told us that we could have a greater collective impact on our food system if there was a structure for increased information sharing and collaboration.

Network Mission: The Rogue Valley Food System Network establishes a collaborative community of leadership to develop and advocate for a healthy and sustainable food system in Josephine and Jackson Counties.

Cooking Skills Education Program: The Cooking Skills Education Program is intended to expand the reach and scope of current education programs to engage a greater audience and address the needs for food skills education in the community and to have a more informed and self-sufficient consumer who is inspired to eat more fresh, local fruits, vegetables and whole foods. The program is focused on having well-trained and valued volunteers.

Local Market Development: We here at Thrive are connecting farmers and grocery stores to increase the amount of locally grown foods available where customers are already shopping.

Healthy Corner Store Initiative: The Healthy Corner Store Initiative is a collaborative project of Jackson County Public Health Department, OSU Extension, and ACCESS to make healthy foods more accessible through neighborhood markets in our community's food deserts.
